Sharing stories by independent Australian writers, of all genres.

Genreless Books is an independent publishing house based in Australia, founded in 2025 by Australian writer–designer Liam Stritt. We support local writers with everything they need to bring their book to life.

We are excited to share our very first collaboration:

Colours of the Coast

This is the Central Coast as you’ve never seen it before — brought to life through stories and poems that explore colour in all its beauty.

We support you along your entire publishing journey.

If you’re a writer of any kind looking to self-publish, we offer total support throughout the process, so you can share your story with confidence.

Book Cover Design

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover… but they also say you never get a second chance to make a first impression! (Maybe we should stop listening to them, and just listen to ourselves.) A well-designed book cover communicates the tone of your work and infuses it with another layer of meaning.

Manuscript Formatting

Manuscript assembly can be a tricky business. Fortunately, we love it — and we’ve got the chops for it, too. Liam has been formatting and typesetting big ol’ manuscripts since he self-published his first book, Open-Minded, in 2017.

Spell Checking

Liam started policing the English language at age 5, when his kindergarten teacher made a spelling error on the chalkboard. Since then, he’s been hunting down typos with all the fervour of Captain Ahab.

Print Production

We partner with a local Australian short-run book printing specialist, Aburra Press, a member of the NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders. They offer excellent production quality and attention to detail, and can even create a prototype before producing a full run.

ISBN Registration

The ISBN, or International Standard Book Number, is a standard identifier assigned to published works. You’ll need one for each format in which your book is distributed — e.g. print, eBook, and audiobook. The best part: we can access them at a cheaper bulk rate than if you bought an ISBN yourself!

Sales & Marketing

Imagine this: you’ve written your book, gotten it beautifully designed and printed, and now you want to sell it… but the publisher just shrugs and tells you to figure it out yourself. That ain’t right! If you want support with sales and marketing, we can plan for it from the get-go.

Our Philosophy

Your voice matters.

Everyone deserves to be heard. And listened to. And given a chance to be understood. The self-publishing revolution of the 21st century means that more people than ever before are capable of creating and sharing their stories. We exist to empower you.

Your creativity matters.

We proudly advocate for human-first creativity. Writing is a sacred human tradition that has existed for thousands of years. It is an artform. It is a form of expression. Of communication. It is the human soul, bared on a page. As long as human creativity endures, so does the human spirit. We help it flourish.

But genre doesn’t matter.

We believe that genres are no longer the relevant way to look at the arts. In fact, they never were. We don’t need categories, or boxes, or labels to tell us who we are. We simply… are. And the best way to live, is to express the very essence of our soul. That’s why we defy definition. We are Genreless.

Our Founder

Liam Stritt

Liam is an introspective creative from suburban Sydney, who makes a living as a graphic designer. His first foray into self‑publishing was in 2017, when he released his first book OpenMinded, a collection of essays reflecting on the human condition. In 2019, he followed with a novella entitled Alive. He is now at work on his debut novel, A Stirring in My Soul.

Genreless Books was founded in 2025 as a platform to support other independent creatives — to help them share their stories with that elusive thing called confidence, as well as some kind words of encouragement at every step.

FAQs

That stands for ‘Frequently Asked Questions,’
in case you were… asking.

  • Well, yes and no. Let’s explain:

We work together with writers to publish their works by offering services like design and print, but we don’t take editorial control like a traditional publisher would. If you want to be more accurate, you could call it “co-publishing.” (We like that, but we also made it up.)

We use the term “self-publishing” because it’s more well-known, and well-understood. If you want to publish without having to pitch, get an agent, work with an editor and go through the whole rigmarole — but you want support making your book a real, beautiful thing — consider us!

  • You, the author! As the author, you retain full copyright to your work. In legal-speak, it is your ‘intellectual property.’ You are the owner. This means you have the right to reproduce any part of your book you want, anywhere you want.

We advise against publishing your entire work online, for obvious reasons… but we can’t stop you! All of this is established in the copyright page of your book.

  • Yes — we offer both!

Liam is a formally trained visual designer, who has been practising as a full-time professional since 2020. He has also been self-publishing since 2017.

If your book requires illustration, we have a network of talented illustrators we can partner with to support your project. Whether you’re looking to include illustrated moments in your novel, or dreaming up a children's book, your imagination is the only limit.

  • In short — no.

We do not accept writing projects whose final outcomes were created using generative AI. Not only does this go against our belief in the power and importance of human creativity — it also puts us at serious legal risk, if and when future legislation addresses generative writing.

However, if you used AI-based tools for brainstorming, ideation, or to learn general principles about the writing craft, that is fine; so long as the tool didn’t do the actual writing for you.

  • Absolutely. And there are a few ways to approach this.

Option 1: Sell in our bookstore.
If you publish with Genreless, you can choose to sell your books via our bookstore, and we’ll provide you a shared percentage of profits.

    Option 2: Sell directly yourself.
Alternatively, you can pay for printing costs, and sell directly to readers yourself. This is more hassle and upfront expense for you, although you do retain more profit for each unit.

    Option 3: Do both!
We’re happy to discuss with you and make a genuine recommendation on what we think is best. We’re here to support you on whatever path you want to take.
